Nike responds to the criticism

Chief Marketing Officer Aaron Goldman:

“Racial equality is a top concern for this audience, along with causes like clean-water access and gun control,” Goldman said.

(This coming from a footwear and apparel company? Sounds more like a senator from the blue state of CA)

He continues:

‘You can be darn sure that Nike has done its research and knows what will move its product and who this campaign will resonate with. They are the ones [Nike has] decided will be its future customers, so, if others are getting upset, [Nike has] planned for that, and it doesn’t care.’

So there you have it. F**K you... because they don't care! This is the
core demographic they're trying to reach.

It's a brilliant sales strategy really. They make use of Kaepernick in some false sense of 'racial equality' pay him a ton of money, in reality, to promote racism in order to appeal to their customer base.
