White House: Obama 'regrets' decision to filibuster Supreme Court Justice Alito

Funny how regret only takes place when the shoe is on the other foot.

Speaking of regret now that we have crossed over $19 trillion in debt, and by the time he leaves office it'll be $20 trillion, maybe we should revisit another one of his infamous statements. I don't know about regret but he's certainly a hypocritical lying turd when he issued this statement:

Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

And what did we get? This worthless, lying, SOB.

Have you ever seen this on any of the major networks?

The top White House spokesman said Wednesday that President Obama “regrets” his 2006 decision to filibuster the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court – after being accused of hypocrisy for blasting “obstructionist” Republicans now vowing to block his next high court nominee.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was pressed on Obama’s 2006 vote, as a U.S. senator, at the daily briefing.

“Looking back on it, the president believes that he should have just followed his own advice and made a strong public case on the merits about his opposition to the nomination that President Bush had put forward,” he told reporters.

Earnest said that Republicans are going further than Obama did, with a pledge to not consider anyone the president nominates.

“There is a pretty stark difference here. What Republicans are advocating is wrong and is inconsistent with the requirements of the Constitution, primarily because the wording of the Constitution is unambiguous and does not provide an exception for election years,” he said.

Earnest also argued that the 2006 filibuster of Alito was different because it was not likely to succeed since the votes already existed for him to be confirmed and was based on “substance.”

“What the president regrets is that Senate Democrats didn't focus more on making an effective public case about those substantive objections,” he said. “Instead, some Democrats engaged in a process of throwing sand in the gears of the confirmation process. And that's an approach that the president regrets.”

Obama, in his most extensive remarks on the vacancy since the 79-year-old Scalia was found dead at a Texas ranch on Saturday, rejected widespread calls by Republican lawmakers and 2016 candidates to defer to the next president to fill Scalia’s seat.

“There is no unwritten law that says that it can only be done on off-years. That’s not in the constitutional text,” Obama said at a press conference Tuesday, blasting what he called an “obstructionist” Senate.

In 2006, then-Senator Obama tried to filibuster the nomination of Alito, who ultimately was confirmed.

When asked about that seeming discrepancy, Obama did not answer directly, noting that senators are sometimes worried about primary elections and a backlash from supporters, and take “strategic decisions.”

He also brushed off his own opposition to Alito, saying he’s on the bench now, “regardless of which votes particular senators have taken.”

Obama Will Make Supreme Court Fight About His Race

Let's face it. Scalia was wasn't even cold yet and Barry was already talking about his replacement. Yes, Barry's going to make this about race and probably to up the ante he'll select a black nominee. Why? He has an ace in the hole.

This guy:

Mr Cave.

It's not if he caves, it's when. This guy has the backbone of a slightly moistened strand of fettuccine.

From Barry's point of view, this is a great strategy. After all, Sharpton and Jackson have made their living playing the race card.

Obama Will Say Republican Senators Are Racist If They Block Supreme Court Nominee

CNN chief national correspondent John King says that if Senate Republicans block President Barack Obama’s nominee to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, the president will argue they did so because they are racists.

“[H]e understands the legacy value in this pick, so he will fight for it,” King said in an appearance on “Anderson Cooper 360” Tuesday night. “If he doesn’t get it, then he will go around the country trying to turn out votes, trying to turn out the Obama coalition in November to help the Democrats win the White House to make sure at least a Democrat gets that pick next.”

“And if he does that, he will make the case — and you can bet on it — that Republicans blocked him because he’s the first African-American president and they didn’t give it to him because of his race,” he went on.

During the same segment, liberal George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said that Obama has a hypocrisy problem in demanding that Republicans give his eventual nominee a vote since the president tried to filibuster Justice Sam Alito in 2006 when he was a senator.

“[A]t the end of the day, President Obama is the answer to his own question, you know when he says, ‘what is the Senate going to do?'” Turley said. “He filibustered Justice Alito and even though he had qualms at the time, he did exactly what he’s telling the Republicans not to do in many respects.”

------------------------------------

Oh...and the double whammy? If his nominee is a black woman not only will Republicans be deemed racists but we'll get to revisit this:

They'll probably dig up Joe Soptic's wife so McConnell can kill her this time.

George Clooney offers Angela Merkel support for handling Syrian refugee crisis

Sure... Clooney knows all about Muslim incursion. He's just as stupid as Merkle if not more so. Taking advice from him would be tantamount to having Kanye West as your personal financial consultant.

George Clooney took a break from promoting his new film "Hail, Caesar!" in Berlin to talk about the Syrian refugee crisis with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

-------------------------------------

Clooney supports Germany's open-door policy, led by Merkel, towards refugees fleeing the Syrian conflict, the Guardian reported. He told reporters at the Berlin film festival, "I absolutely agree with her."

Clooney and his human-rights lawyer wife, Amal, enjoyed a one-hour meeting with Merkel on Friday. They discussed the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and the political reaction to it in Europe and elsewhere, the Guardian said.

US actor George Clooney and his wife Amal Alamuddin speak with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Chancellery in Berlin.

More than 4.5 million men, women and children have taken refuge outside Syria since the conflict broke out in 2011, according to Amnesty International. Most of those people are in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. In a move that has become increasingly controversial in Germany, Europe's most populous country took in 1.1 million refugees in 2015, many of from Syria.

Clooney didn't release any details about what he discussed with Merkel. David Miliband, the former UK foreign secretary who is now head of the New York-based International Rescue Committee, accompanied the Clooneys to meet Merkel and told the BBC that the conversation covered possible solutions to the "global problem." Clooney also praised Merkel for "showing very strong leadership."

Really...ask the German people what they think of her "very strong leadership."

Clooney, a United Nations Messenger of Peace, has said he wants to do more to help the people of Syria though he doesn't want to get directly involved in politics. He has urged the United States to take in more refugees.
