Trump administration makes first tangible step to building border wall

According to this article, there seems to be some hesitation from Congress concerning the funding. Funny when you think about it. We spend billions each year housing, feeding, and giving 'free' medical care to illegals. Not to mention 38% of federal prisons are composed of illegals. Why is it we can find the money for that but for the wall it might be a problem? They'll never do it. But if they got rid of the illegals here now the wall would pay for itself.

BTW...how many miles of border wall could have been built with the billions Barry gave Iran?

-------------------------

President Trump’s administration on Friday made its first tangible step towards developing and implementing one of the president’s chief campaign promises: to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border.

Bloomberg reported that the administration issued a preliminary request for proposals to contractors. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it plans to start awarding contracts by mid-April.

The agency said it will request bids on or around March 6 and that companies would have to submit "concept papers" to design and build prototypes by March 10.

The field of candidates will be narrowed by March 20, and finalists must submit offers with their proposed costs by March 24.

The president told the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday that construction will start "very soon" and is "way, way, way ahead of schedule."

The agency's notice gave no details on where the wall would be built first and how many miles would be covered initially. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly has sought employees' opinions during border tours of California, Arizona and Texas.

It is unclear how soon Congress would provide funding and how much.

The Government Accountability Office estimates it would cost on average $6.5 million a mile for a fence to keep out people who try to enter on foot and $1.8 million a mile for vehicle barriers. There are currently 354 miles of pedestrian fencing and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, much of it built during President George W. Bush's second term.

Republican leaders in Congress have said Trump's wall would cost between $12 billion and $15 billion. Trump has suggested $12 billion.

An internal Homeland Security Department report prepared for Kelly estimates the cost of extending the wall along the entire U.S.-Mexico border at about $21 billion, according to a U.S. government official who is involved in border issues. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the report has not been made public.

The Homeland Security report proposes an initial phase that would extend fences 26 miles and a second wave that would add 151 miles, plus 272 "replacement" miles where fences are already installed, according to the official. Those two phases would cost $5 billion.

The price tag will depend largely on the height, materials and other specifications that have not yet been defined.

Granite Construction Inc., Vulcan Materials Co. and Martin Marrieta Materials Inc. are seen as potential bidders. Kiewit Corp. built one of the more expensive stretches of fencing so far at a cost of about $16 million a mile, a project in San Diego that involved filling a deep canyon known as Smuggler's Gulch.

Cement maker Cemex SAB is also seen as a potential beneficiary even though it is based in Mexico.

Sean Hannity Reveals Alan Colmes Shielded Wife from His Illness: ‘He Always Put Others Ahead of Himself’

Seems like I just saw him on FOX a few days ago. Not to speak ill of the dead but I could never stand the guy. Can’t believe he was married to Monica’s sister. Must have been some 'spirited' Thanksgiving dinners. However, this article puts him in a different light which I never knew about.

---------------------------------

Sean Hannity Calls Alan Colmes’ Battle with Illness ‘the Single Greatest Amount of Courage I’ve Ever Seen’

As a “heartbroken” Sean Hannity mourns the death of his longtime friend and Fox News sparring partner Alan Colmes, he also wants to celebrate the life and selfless spirit of the late political commentator.

Speaking with PEOPLE, the Fox News Channel host opened up about the loss of his colleague and close friend, who died at the age of 66 after battling a brief illness.

Though the details surrounding Colmes’ illness have not been released, Hannity says that when the radio and television host first learned of his health issues, Colmes’ first thought was to shield his wife, Jocelyn Crowley.

“ we first talked about it, you know, typical Alan style, his first statement to me was, ‘I don’t want my wife to worry or be upset,’ ” Hannity recalls. “He was thinking about her. He loved his wife, he adored her.”

“She’s a wonderful woman, and I know she’s struggling today,” he adds. “Alan always put other people ahead of himself.”

The former Hannity & Colmes co-hosts were more than just colleagues, they were great friends who were able to grow together.

“Alan was just a great guy, really awesome. We were really blessed. We got hired, neither one of us had a lot of TV experience; we had to collaborate really strongly to survive,” says Hannity. “We worked very hard together on that. I know people remember us for our political differences, but our personal differences did not exist. We were good friends. He was a great man, kind, generous, wonderful, and the world is a little less nice today in my opinion.”

Hannity & Colmes launched Oct. 7, 1996, and ran until Jan. 9, 2009, showcasing the pair’s strong opposing political views.

“Alan believed everything he said, and I think that was one of the reasons for the great success of the show,” he adds. “He really believed in what we were talking about. He worked so hard and was really such a big part of the success of the channel and show. He accomplished a lot more than anybody would have ever expected. We grew together. When we first started, we both felt like the luckiest people in the world and we both worked hard to make the show what it became, the number one show in the slot and we were both very proud of it — two lucky guys who got a shot of a lifetime.”

If there was one thing about the former stand-up comedian that Hannity loved was, of course, his sense of humor.

“Even though we had political disagreements, how could you not love Alan?” Hannity says. “I can’t tell you how many of my conservative friends that have been on the show with Alan for years, he was our favorite liberal — the nicest liberal. He was the guy you wanted to hang out with. He was the real deal. I’ve always said the hardest people to debate are comedians, because they could make a great point and then ten minutes along, they come out with a joke — Alan was the best at that.”

“It used to drive me nuts,” laughs Hannity. “But he had a wicked sense of humor. The good thing is, when the show was over, the show was over, and we weren’t talking about politics. We agreed to disagree.”

Report: Feds Forked Out $1 Billion in Social Security Benefits to People Without SSN

On Tuesday, The Political Insider reported on a set of memos issued by the Department of Homeland Security detailing the agency’s immigration priorities under the Trump administration.

In addition to prioritizing the deportation of illegal immigrants convicted or charged with a crime, President Trump has also pledged to deport illegal immigrants who have abused welfare programs.

This here has got to come to a screeching halt!

This last comes on the heels of a damaging report that found the Social Security Administration paid approximately $1 billion in benefits to individuals with no Social Security Number (SSN).

From The Washington Free Beacon:

The agency’s inspector general found errors in the government’s documentation for representative payees, otherwise known as individuals who receive retirement or disability payments on behalf of another person who is incapable of managing the benefits themselves.

The audit released Friday found thousands of cases where there was no SSN on file.

Over the last decade, the agency paid $1 billion to 22,426 representative payees who “did not have an SSN, and SSA had not followed its policy to retain the paper application.”

“Furthermore, unless it takes corrective action, we estimate SSA will pay about $182.5 million in benefits, annually, to representative payees who do not have an SSN or paper application supporting their selection,” the inspector general said.

The inspector general also found the agency paid $853.1 million in benefits since 2004 to individuals who had been terminated as representative payees by the agency.

The report notes that “Illegal aliens without SSNs are allowed to receive benefits from the government when acting as representatives for their minor children.” It is unclear how many recipients of the $1 billion in improper Social Security benefits were in this country illegally.

Given that the Social Security Administration gave more than $1 billion in benefits to individuals without SSN’s, do you support President Trump’s pledge to deport illegal immigrants who abuse our public benefit programs?
