The Smollett family enlisted the help of former Obama adviser Tina Tchen to try to get the investigation taken over by the FBI

Taken over by the FBI!!!

I'm coming down with a case of Comey/Clinton Déjà vu:

"No reasonable prosecutor would bring a case against Smollett for 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct and lying to police about being attacked."

-------------------

Jussie Smollett pleads not guilty to lying to police and will now stand trial.

The 36-year-old actor will return to court in April and will be allowed to travel between New York City and Los Angeles to meet with lawyers.

He was accompanied by some but not all of his family and said nothing as he strode quickly into the courthouse wearing a pair of sunglasses.

He was searched by security before entering the courtroom where he is expected to enter a plea on 16 counts of disorderly conduct. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 48 years behind bars.

Smollett, who insists he is innocent, is accused of paying brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo to attack him on January 29. They told police the actor wanted a raise on Empire, the Fox show in which he is one of the central characters.

On Thursday morning, trial judge Steven Gregory Watkins was assigned to the case.

After pleading not guilty on all counts, Smollett left the court with his family without making a statement.

On Thursday, Tina Glandian, one of his attorneys said they 'welcomed' the case being open to the public and media.

'We welcome cameras in the courtroom so the public and the media can see the evidence and we believe is a lack of evidence against Mr. Smollett and we look forward to complete transparency and the truth coming out,' she said.

Members of Smollett's team told the media at the courthouse that his Empire co-star Terrence Howard had planned to attend the arraignment but that his flight was delayed arriving in Chicago.

They said he would likely attend later sessions.

Smollett's court appearance coincided with the revelation that his family contacted former Michelle Obama aide Tina Tchen to get in touch with State's Attorney Kimberly Foxx the day after the attack to tell her they had 'concerns' with how the police were handling it.

They were worried, they said, about the amount of information that was being leaked to the media from the start of the investigation.

Tchen persuaded her to try to pawn the case off to the FBI, according to text messages obtained by USA Today.

Foxx said she was 'trying' and had spoken to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnston to try to 'convince' him to let the FBI take the lead on the investigation.

She also exchanged text with one of Smollett's relatives who replied: 'Omg this would be a huge victory,' when Foxx mentioned her efforts.

Smollett's brothers Jake (far left in black sunglasses) and Jojo (front left in gray coat) joined him as did his sister-in-law Lala (front right) and other loved ones

Smollett was joined by some of his siblings but not all of them. He wore sunglasses and a suit with a coat and was flanked by a bodyguard

There were lines of fans outside the court who shouted 'Justice for Jussie' as he made his way inside

(Not that I can read the signs but I'm sure OJ, Trayvon, Michael Brown etc...are all fucking innocent)

Ultimately, the case did not move on to the FBI because there was not enough evidence that Smollett had been the victim of a hate crime as he claimed.

Foxx recused herself from the case after Smollett was arrested, saying at the time that her contact with a family member of his was a conflict of interest in the case.

Tchen, who worked with the Obamas when they were in the White House, has not publicly commented on the case.

Smollett did not initially want to involve the police on the night of the attack.

It was his friend, 60-year-old Frank Gatson, who insisted they call 911 after he arrived back at his apartment with a rope around his neck and bleach on his clothes, claiming to have been assaulted by two men who shouted: 'This is MAGA country!' as they beat him.

State's Attorney Kim Foxx told the Smollett family she was 'trying' to convince the Chicago PD to let the FBI take over the case but it never happened. She recused herself later over the conflict of interest. On Thursday, trial judge Steven Gregory Watkins (right) was assigned to Smollett's case

It was 2am and he had gone out to get a salad from Subway.

In the weeks that followed, Chicago PD sources gradually leaked information about the case to local media about how Smollett was refusing to hand over his phone records.

As they combed through surveillance footage from the night of the attack, they honed in on the Osundairo brothers and tracked their rideshare and taxi movements.

They then arrested the pair on February 20 as they arrived back in Chicago from Nigeria.

In the 47th hour of their 48 hour hold, the brothers confessed to the plot.

At around the same time, Smollett went on Good Morning America to plead his innocence and condemn the growing skepticism surrounding his case.

Brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo told police Smollett paid them to not only train him athletically but to attack him in a fake hate crime

Beto O'Rourke announces he's running for president in 2020

Straight out of Wikipedia:

On May 19, 1995, O'Rourke and his friends sneaked under the fence at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) physical plant, and were arrested by the UTEP police for burglary. He stayed in jail overnight and posted bail the following day. He was initially charged with burglary, but UTEP decided not to press charges and prosecutors dropped the charges against O'Rourke and his friends in February 1996.[27][28][29]

O'Rourke was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a car crash on September 27, 1998, at 3:00 AM on Interstate 10 in Anthony, Texas. The charges were dismissed in October 1999 after he completed a court-recommended DWI program.[25][28][29][30] In response to attacks from a political opponent in 2005, O'Rourke said, "I've been open about it since the very beginning. I have owned up to it and I have taken responsibility for it."[27] He apologized and said he was "grateful for the second chance."[31]

So he had a couple of brushes with the law... that we know about. And it got me to thinking after I saw this photo.

He good pass for a Kennedy. I wonder if he possesses any of their other traits? If so, somewhere along the run to the WH someone's bound to get Mary Jo Kopechned or Marilyn Monroed.

Biden Says He’s Almost All In On 2020, But Worries About Trump’s Take-No-Prisoners Approach

Forget about... 'Take-No-Prisoners Approach' which points the finger at  Biden's son Hunter.

Instead, think about this:

Now imagine Kamala Harris is his running mate.

--------------------

Former Vice President Joe Biden is almost totally prepared to announce his bid for the White House, according to media reports. There’s just one big thing keeping him from pulling the trigger: concerns that President Donald Trump will play too rough during the general campaign.

Biden’s chief strategist, Steve Ricchetti, is signaling that the Delaware Democrat is about 95 percent committed to running, officials connected to the former vice president told The News York Times Thursday. There are several issues tossing a monkey wrench into Biden’s plans, however, chief among them is concern that Trump will exploit his personal life.

“I don’t think he’s likely to stop at anything, whomever he runs against,” Biden told TheNYT on Feb. 26, referring to the president’s street brawling style of campaigning. He is worried about putting his “family through what would be a very, very, very difficult campaign.” Biden believes Trump might try to exploit his tumultuous private life — his son’s checkered romantic history could be the chief reason.

Operatives worry Hunter Biden, the former VP’s 49-year-old son, would inevitably become an ongoing issue if Biden were to join an increasingly crowded presidential race. Hunter’s romantic relationship with his brother’s widow created headlines throughout the past several years, though most of the reports went under the radar during Biden’s tenure in the Obama administration.

Biden’s other son, Beau, died of brain cancer in May 2015. Hunter, who was married at the time, became involved shortly thereafter with his older brother’s widow, Hallie. Hunter’s wife later claimed in divorce papers that her husband wasted money on prostitutes, strip clubs, and drugs, among other vices. Biden also worries jumping into the race would be a fool’s errand.

“What I don’t want to do is take people’s time, effort and commitment without there being a clear shot that I could be the nominee,” he said at a Feb. 28 event in Delaware. Democrats are meanwhile getting impatient waiting for the 76-year-old politician to make his decision.

He extended an end-of-2018 timeline into January and then into March. Biden is enjoying wide support from the Democratic base, perhaps as a result of his connection with former President Barack Obama. “People underestimate the intensity of his support and how broad it is,” John Anzalone, a Democratic pollster, said in an interview with the NYT.

Biden still has the support of black people (70 percent), white people without a college education (71 percent), and white people with a college education (83 percent), according to an NPR poll in January. His numbers are sky-high compared to Democratic Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Kamala Harris of California.

Results from the NPR poll come off the heels of a Morning Consult poll in December 2018 showing Biden leading the pack of prospective Democratic nominees in 2020. Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders followed a close second in the poll, drawing 19 percent among Democrats.

'Muslim Community Patrols' have NYC residents alarmed

Video a tip from Ed Kilbane

Notice they're 'alarmed'... but they won't do a damn anything about it. Why? Because Muslims take the initiative... they have New Yorkers trained to kiss their ass.

Video 493

All you have to do is reflect on who the mayor is.

If I said on September 12th, 2001... the day will come Muslims will be to patrolling the streets of NY out of some sick sense of political correctness I would have been deemed insane!

BTW...
How many Muslim patrol cars do you think there are in Dallas, TX?
