Meaning of American Pie by Don McLean (w/lyrics)

On a tip from Phil McCafferty

Don Mclean and American Pie.....with pictures. Although Don McLean only released the song in 1971, for those of us who grew up in the 50’s and 60’s this is a great piece with some very poignant moments in the history of those times. And for those of you who did not, it’s a taste of what you missed. I knew that "American Pie" was the name of the plane in which Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and The Big Bopper were killed when it crashed in February 3rd, 1959, and I knew the chorus about music dying on that day. I have listened to American Pie for many years and I thought I understood what was being sung but now realize that I didn’t. However, when the words are put together with pictures and film clips the song takes on a new meaning. It took a lot of thought to produce this and it brings back lots of memories and also makes the lyrics really come alive!

Hope this video does for you what it did for me. A lump in my throat, a smile on my face and a tear in my eye. Can't ask for much more than that.

Joe Scarborough Outlines The Democratic 2020 Platform So Far, And It Ain't Pretty

If you found yourself watching the Democratic 2020 presidential debates last week and thinking that the candidates have become so openminded that their brains have fallen out, it appears you are not alone. Even MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, a former Republican Congressman, had to point out how extreme the party has become in their open borders, overspending, big government crusade.

"Democratic candidates, you now support: (1) universal health care for illegal immigrants, (2) making illegally crossing America’s borders legal, and, (3) a return to forced busing," the host of Morning Joe tweeted.

Indeed, as Townhall covered last Wednesday and Thursday, the candidates all supported giving illegal aliens healthcare and open border policies. Even potential frontrunner Sen. Kamala Harris apparently supports forced busing in the 21st century.

But now that cultural icon of the left Colin Kaepernick, who claimed he was never protesting the American flag and instead was protesting police brutality, has demanded that Nike not issue shoes that feature the Betsy Ross version of the American flag, Scarborough wonders if the Democratic candidates will kowtow to the social justice warriors by also opposing Betsy Ross flag. "Do you also now support the banning of the Betsy Ross flag from public places?" he posted.

Scarborough's question brings up an interesting facet of 2020 race -- Republicans are already slamming Nike and Kaepernick for their decision to pull the project. President Trump has yet to comment on it, but most likely surely will. Will Democratic candidates support Kaepernick? My guess is most will issue a bogus statement about supporting freedom of speech and commenting that dissent is the highest form of patriotism while not actually addressing the question of whether or not they agree with Kaepernick.

A related article from FOX:

Just in time for the Fourth of July, Nike and washed-up footballer Colin Kaepernick have joined forces in an America-bashing cavalcade. The enormous sportswear company planned to release a new red, white, and blue sneaker adorned with American Revolutionary Betsy Ross’ 13-star flag, this country’s first banner.

However, Kaepernick complained to Nike that this all-American symbol is – what else? – racist. “After images of the shoe were posted online, Mr. Kaepernick, a Nike endorser, reached out to company officials saying that he and others felt the Betsy Ross flag is an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

So, Nike decided that they could not just do it. They scrapped the new product and, in turn, igniting a fresh national controversy.

For starters, why is anyone listening to this creep?

Kaepernick is one of the most divisive people in this country. He started the “take-a-knee” movement that had Americans shouting at each other for perhaps 18 months or more. Rather than set aside our differences and unify ourselves through “The Star-Spangled Banner,” he chose to pit Americans against each other over one of the few things that hold us together.

Shame on him!

This punk has not played football since 2016. And he didn’t distinguish himself much, at that. I know nothing about football, and the less I learn about it, the better. What I do know is, rather than play ball, he created massive migraines for the entire NFL. When he got other players to take to their knees during the national anthem before games, he sent ratings into a tailspin as revolted fans clicked off their HDTVs. No wonder team owners dodged him like the measles.

If this bum has a problem with Betsy Ross’ 13-star flag and the original 13 colonies, then, as Brian Kilmeade observed Tuesday morning on “Fox & Friends,” Kaepernick has a problem with today’s American flag. It has 13 stripes, which also represent our original 13 colonies and the first 13 American states. So, Kaepernick’s fight is with any and every American flag created since 1776.

Disgusting!

As for Nike, shame on this corporate giant for caving into this loudmouth. Nike should have ignored Kaepernick and sold these shoes to the millions of Americans who love this country, rather than knuckle under to the rants of this solitary anti-American, tattoo-encrusted loser.

The only person to escape favorably from this needless mess is Gov. Doug Ducey, R-Ariz.

“Words cannot express my disappointment at this terrible decision,” Ducey said today via Twitter. ”I am embarrassed for Nike. Nike is an iconic American brand and American company. This country, our system of government and free enterprise have allowed them to prosper and flourish.”

“Instead of celebrating American history the week of our nation’s independence, Nike has apparently decided that Betsy Ross is unworthy, and has bowed to the current onslaught of political correctness and historical revisionism,” Ducey added. “It is a shameful retreat for the company. American businesses should be proud of our country’s history, not abandoning it.”

“Nike has made its decision, and now we’re making ours,” Ducey continued. “I’ve ordered the Arizona Commerce Authority to withdraw all financial incentive dollars under their discretion that the State was providing for the company to locate here.”

Ducey concluded: “Arizona’s economy is doing just fine without Nike. We don’t need to suck up to companies that consciously denigrate our nation’s history...And finally, it shouldn’t take a controversy over a shoe for our kids to know who Betsy Ross is. A founding mother. Her story should be taught in all American schools. In the meantime, it’s worth googling her.”

Down with Kaepernick! Up with Ducey!

No Debate: 'America Last' Dems Will Lose to Trump

By Frank Miele

After watching the first Democratic debates, it is now obvious why President Trump selected “Keep America Great” as his official 2020 campaign slogan.

At his rallies, his supporters still showed an affinity for “Make America Great Again,” but Trump’s political instincts told him to switch. Here’s why: The Democrats want to undermine Americans’ current success with foolhardy social and economic programs that represent not just a redistribution of wealth from the rich to the poor, but even from citizens to non-citizens. This is their fatal mistake. By taking the side of non-voters over voters, the Democrats have once again veered into “basket of deplorables” territory.

Who is going to defend the USA against this assault? Donald Trump, of course. With “Keep America Great” emblazoned on his brow, Trump will stand athwart history and atop the ramparts and shout once again, “I alone can fix it!” Or in this case, “I alone can protect you!”

The Democrats have no idea of the power that slogan — Keep America Great! — conveys, nor of the ideas behind it. As Rush Limbaugh and a caller summed it up recently, this is a “binary election” between socialism and capitalism. It is also a binary election between globalism and Americanism, between lawlessness and order, between fantasy and reality.

Fantasy was on full display in Miami last week when 20 of the top Democrats gathered for two nights to paint President Trump as a dangerous criminal who must be stopped. At times, they looked like they were rehearsing a scene from “Toy Story 4” when Mr. Potato Head and the rest of the toys clamor to see who could most loudly condemn Sheriff Woody. (Spoiler alert: Sheriff Woody was wrongly accused and is vindicated in the end as a man of principle.)

The MSNBC and NBC hosts deserve some blame for the confusing chaos on the debate stage, and the moderators continually tried to shove the Democrats ever more leftward on the issues, especially immigration. But most of the fault rests squarely on the shoulders of the candidates. When, on the second night, they all raised their hands in support of free health care for illegal immigrants, they were virtually conceding defeat 16 months early.

-----------------

As I suggested in my June 28th post this was their nail in the coffin.

Collective suicide. Most rational red-blooded Americans regardless of party affiliation will not accept this socialist insanity.

----------------

The first night wasn’t much better, but it had the benefit of low expectations — not to mention the comic relief of the “hot mic” incident as America waited with bated breath to find out if Savannah Guthrie would ever locate her lost binder. Opening night also had the same bone-headed insistence on putting a thumb in the eye of the average American that we have come to expect from Democrats. Almost unanimously, the candidates said that anyone who gets into our country illegally should be handed an official apology; a path to citizenship; and an IOU good for free health care, a free college education, and a good-paying job.

The president must have been delighted. MSNBC commentator Claire McCaskill said it best in the post-debate analysis: “I’m just telling you: ‘Open borders’ is not the way we beat Donald Trump.” Take it from the woman who is the former senator from Missouri for good reason.

But the Democratic candidates weren’t listening to her. They were busily taking their cues from Bernie Sanders, the socialist oracle from Vermont, and from Elizabeth Warren, the socialist feminist from Massachusetts. More free stuff. More abortion. More free abortion. And finally more free abortion for illegal aliens.

Meanwhile, there’s President Trump waiting in the wings, dancing a jig with Lady Liberty, and celebrating our great American traditions, our great capitalist economy, our great Constitution and our great country. If you want to keep America great (and who doesn’t?), then you have no choice. It’s Trump or bust. He alone can defeat the “America last” Democrats. Bet against him — and America — at your own risk.

Well said!!!!

'Chernobyl on ice:' Russia plans to tow a nuclear power station to the Arctic

Go here to see the rest of the photos…

"This rig can't be torn out of moorings, even with a 9-point tsunami, and we've even considered that if it does go inland, there is a backup system that can keep the reactor cooling for 24 hours without an electricity supply," said Dmitry Alekseenko, deputy director of the Lomonosov plant.

This is reminiscent of this infamous line.

"Not even God himself could sink this ship.”
— Employee of the White Star Line, at the launch of the Titanic, May 31, 1911

I can see it now.

Headlines 2022:

Floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov destroyed by a tsunami leaves vast expanse of Arctic region uninhabitable for 30 years

With no possibility of a clean up in this remote Arctic region and fish kill in the billions, the Akademik Lomonosov languishes on the rocky shoreline. It's nuclear reactor a mangled jagged twist of metal. No one knows what the full effect of the radioactive contamination will be in the atmosphere but some scientists say…

Dan Rather Warns Donald Trump Over 'Deeply Strange' Putin Meeting: 'History Is Watching'

This coming from the guy who some might consider the father of fake news. Dan Rather is best known for bringing to the world a piece of fake news (dirty dossier anyone) about George W. Bush’s Air National Guard service in Texas. Rather subsequently admitted on the air that the documents' authenticity could not be proven but he still stuck to his story.

Evidently, even being let go by CBS in which Rather’s team, in collusion with John Kerry’s campaign, aired unverified documents about George W. Bush’s National Guard service didn’t teach Rather anything...I'm sure he has a 100% verifiable recording of the entire Trump/Putin conversation.

One way is for son-of-a-bitch to commit suicide.

The article is from the HuffPost. Better get a barf bag.

------------------------

Veteran journalist Dan Rather on Friday lamented how American foreign policy has, under President Donald Trump, “become incoherent and amateurish.”

The former CBS news anchor told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that Trump’s conduct while meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, was “deeply strange, at least borderline bizarre.”

Trump joked with Putin about election meddling and getting “rid” of journalists.

Rather also criticized Trump’s praise at the summit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for doing a “spectacular job” and his tweeted offer to meet North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un at the Korean Peninsula’s demilitarized zone for a handshake.

“History is watching through all this,” Rather warned, later adding: “The president is praising almost any autocrat he can find.”

History was watching Dan...certainly when you tried to fill our ears with your bullshit.
