Maryland trooper fatally shoots DUI suspect while being dragged by vehicle for half a mile, police say

The trooper was treated and released after being thrown from the vehicle

A suspected drunk driver was shot and killed early Friday on I-95 as he dragged a Maryland trooper a half-mile with his vehicle, police said.

The investigation into the 2 a.m. shooting shut down the northbound lanes of the highway in Elkridge, outside Baltimore, until 9 a.m., according to reports.

The officer was thrown from the vehicle after the shooting but wasn't seriously hurt. He was treated and released from the hospital, police said.

The person shot, later identified as Julio Cesar Moran-Ruiz, 36, of Baltimore, was in a Ford Escape and refused an order to exit his vehicle so the trooper could conduct a field sobriety test and then tried to speed away as the trooper hung on, Maryland Police Superintendent Woodrow Jones III said during a news conference Friday morning.

“The trooper yelled repeatedly to stop and warned that he was going to shoot,” Jones said.

He said the trooper was in fear of his life when he fired his weapon.

The gunfire brought the vehicle to a crashing stop, Jones said. After being thrown from the vehicle, the trooper was found by other troopers in the center median.

Moran-Ruiz had no identification on him and gave the trooper a false name, he said.

The trooper was on DUI duty and stopped the Ford after seeing it weaving across lanes, Jones said. The trooper then saw alcohol containers in the vehicle after it pulled over onto the shoulder.

Troopers said a search of the vehicle turned up a machete under the front seat.

Time and time again, these assholes resist arrest or refuse to comply with police directives. When an officer gives you a lawful order you are required by law to obey it. If you return to your vehicle to retrieve a weapon or to flee your arrest, the police are authorized to use force to prevent your escape, and to use deadly force to prevent you retrieving a weapon. Being placed under arrest is not a suggestion. It is not a debate. It is not a negotiation. If after the arrest they feel they were treated unfairly take it up with a lawyer and let a judge decide, that’s why we a judicial system. What I see is a blatant disrespect and contempt for authority and law enforcement. I believe Democrats, lauded by the MSM, have created a system of two sets of rules where one group feels as though they don’t have to adhere to the rule of law and order. They’ve become emboldened by inaction and lack of consequences in Democrat controlled cities.

Hershel Walker's son calls Jacob Blake a 'crazy violent criminal' as his father appears at RNC

In a video posted to Twitter Monday, Christian Walker said the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha was ‘another incident of a crazy violent criminal refusing to follow directions from police officers and suffering the consequences for it.’

The son of Herschel Walker called Jacob Blake a "crazy, violent criminal" as the Heisman Trophy winner appeared at the Republican National Convention to support Donald Trump.

"Jacob Blake, oh yeah he was a felon sexual assaulter, he was a domestic abuser and had given cops trouble in the past. There was a warrant out for his arrest," Mr Walker said in the video. 

"Show us the body cam footage, you're not pulling another George Floyd with us, he should have followed directions and we wouldn't be in this situation."

While an arrest warrant was issued for Mr Blake on 6 July for charges of third-degree assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct in connection to an alleged domestic abuse incident, it is unclear if officers were aware of the warrant when responding to a complaint of "family trouble".

It came on the eve of the Republican National Convention in which the former NFL running back spoke in support of the president and their 37-year friendship.

Following the speech, the racist slur "Uncle Tom" trended as Twitter users attacked Mr Walker for appearing at the RNC, prompting his son to defend his father as "the best speaker of the night".

"He [Mr Trump]] shows how much he cares about social justice in the Black community through his actions, and his actions speak louder than stickers and slogans on a jersey," said Mr Walker said during the convention.

The younger Walker referenced those slogans in his Twitter video, calling Black Live Matter activists terrorists that destroy the lives of black people by destroying their communities.

"Oh, but since he's black BLM terrorists think they got an excuse to go burn and loot a city to the ground," Mr Walker said. "BLM, change your name to Criminal Lives Matter, because all you really do is destroy black lives and black communities when you go burning cities to the ground in the name of violent criminals." 

Following the shooting, protests erupted in Kenosha for three consecutive nights. Two people were shot dead and one injured on Tuesday, according to Kenosha Police Department via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

There has been a marked difference in the response to Mr Blake's shooting between the two political parties. As of Wednesday, President Trump had not expressed remorse over the shooting of Mr Blake and had only tweeted that the national guard should be sent in while Joe Biden said the officers involved must be held accountable.

What would a rational human being do when a cop says... You’re under arrest put your hands behind your back? Why is it the actions of cops are under constant attack but the actions of the perps who precipitated it are not?

This is the saga of Jacob Blake. To cut to the quick his family called the police for a domestic violence altercation. This is Blake and his arrest record.

Prior to the video Blake starts wrestling with the 2 officers. So right here alone you have resisting arrest at a minimum and most likely assaulting a police officer before he gets away attempting to get in the car.

Bear in mind how do the cops know whether or not there's a gun in the car?

As these photos indicate both of the cops have guns drawn and would have to be shouting something to the effect..."Freeze"..."Stop"..."Get on the ground"... etc but he completely ignores the warning and thinks he's just going to get in the car and drive away. So what is the protocol here? Are the cops supposed to waive goodby... or are they supposed to act? If protocol dictates they act this is the headline they get:
