This has got to come to a screeching halt

Illegal immigrant held in rape, murder of California woman was on probation

Another dangerous illegal slips through broken system

One of two men charged in connection with last month's home invasion, rape and fatal bludgeoning of a 64-year-old California woman was in the U.S. illegally and on probation, the News-Press has learned.

Victor Aureliano Martinez Ramirez, 29, who is charged along with Jose Fernando Villagomez, 20, in the July 24 attack in Santa Maria, Calif., was on probation for committing battery against an unidentified woman on May 22, 2014, while in possession of methamphetamine. He was charged twice this year for violating probation, once for possessing a concealed knife and the other for drugs, but a Santa Barbara judge allowed him to enter a substance abuse center in Santa Maria in lieu of jail. According to County Jail officials, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement declined to issue an immigration detainer that would have required local authorities to hold him for deportation.

Just think how ridiculous this is. Instead of deportation we put him in jail and pay to send him to a substance abuse center then release him on probation! Why?  This poor woman's death is a direct result of Sanctuary cities.
The policy is 'catch and release' until they ultimately kill someone. This guy is Mexico's problem not ours.

Martinez will now go through the lengthly, costly, process of trials and appeals eventually getting life or the death penalty all on the taxpayers dime when he could have so easily been deported. Someone tell me how this s**t makes sense.

Police say Marilyn Pharis was beaten with a hammer and sexually assaulted in the morning attack, and died later at a local hospital. An autopsy was set for Thursday.

Ramirez fled, but was tracked from the scene by a police dog to a nearby home, according to authorities.

Ramirez pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and assault with intent to commit rape. Those charges could be upgraded to murder following Pharis' death. He was being held on $1 million bail.

Villagomez was booked Tuesday into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of sexual assault and attempted murder. He was already behind bars after a July 28 arrest over a probation violation.

In May, Villagomez allegedly committed battery against Miguel Angel Romero and was found in possession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to three years of supervised probation June 17 and was also allowed to enter a drug treatment center in Santa Maria.

Both men will next appear in court on Aug. 13. The autopsy findings could result in murder charges against both.

Susan Sarandon calls for Oklahoma death row inmate to be spared

This is the premise why is life should be spared:

Check out number 4 and 5

1) Richard was not accused of killing anyone. He is not a murderer.

2) Richard had no prior history of violence, had never been arrested, and had always been a law-abiding citizen.

3) Richard was convicted of conspiring to murder, with no evidence other than the testimony of the killer (who was allowed to plea bargain as a result)

4) Richard is on death row because Oklahoma State law says that if you offer someone money to kill somebody you get the death penalty; i.e. you don't have to actually kill anyone to be killed by the State.

(If he paid someone to kill another isn't he just as guilty, if not more so, than the one who actually did the deed?)

5) Even the jury, in sentencing him, specifically stated that Richard is not a threat to society.

(But he took it to the Supreme Court and they said he was)

6) Richard did not have the funds to hire a good attorney. If he had, it is unlikely that he'd be in jail. Much less about to be executed

Sarandon said:

"Once a mistake has been made within a judicial system, people just do not want to admit that mistake has been made and it becomes impossible to readdress them."

The same could be said about PP killing the unborn for body parts to sell. Look...do I know if this guy is guilty or not? No. But somehow in the warped mind of liberals a convicted killer's life is more important then theirs.

Richard Glossip, 52, is due to die next month after 17 years on death row
Convicted of murder for ordering hit on Barry Alan Van Treese in 1997
Sarandon believes he is innocent and said trials were 'ridiculous'
She called on public to write letters to Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin

Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon has appealed to the U.S. public to help try to stop the execution of a death row inmate she believes is innocent.

Richard Glossip, 52, is due to die by lethal injection next month but has always maintained he is not guilty of murder.

He was sentenced to death for his part in the killing of motel owner Barry Alan Van Treese in January 1997.

Plea: Actress Susan Sarandon (left) has appealed for the public's help to halt the execution of Richard Glossip, (right) due to be executed next month, who she says is 'clearly innocent'

Ms Sarandon told Sky News that the scheduled execution in Oklahoma shows everything that is wrong with the death penalty in America.

Glossip was convicted on the testimony of Justin Sneed, who confessed to beating Treese to death with a baseball bat, but said he had been hired to do it by Glossip.

Sneed was given a prison sentence whereas Glossip was sentenced to death and has spent the last 17 years on death row.

The actress, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of anti-capital punishment campaigner Sister Helen Prejean in the 1995 film Dead Man Walking, described Glossip's two trials as 'ridiculous' and said there was no physical evidence to implicate him.

She also described the governor of Oklahoma as a 'horrible person' for refusing to intervene.

'Once a mistake has been made within a judicial system, people just do not want to admit that mistake has been made and it becomes impossible to readdress them,' she said.

'And the only thing now that is going to give him a chance to survive is public opinion - is public embarrassment.'

The Thelma and Louise actress has called on people to write to Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, calling for her intervention to grant a stay of execution.

The governor and Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt both declined requests for interviews, according to Sky News.

But Pruitt's office released a statement saying a jury had twice convicted and sentenced Glossip in the murder of Barry Van Treese.

'Glossip has challenged his conviction all the way to the US Supreme Court, exhausting all appeals, and has been unsuccessful at each challenge.

State Department Cautions Americans Considering Travel to Iran

For starters you must be nuts to go to Iran.

If they're this high strung regarding visitors to their country does anyone really believe they're going to allow ANYBODY to inspect their nuclear facilities? Barry's going to give them over a 100 billion to advance the cause of terrorism and we can't even get our own people back.

This whole Iranian deal is a ticking time bomb on so many levels.

-----------------------------------------------

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The Obama administration hopes that the nuclear deal it negotiated with Iran may one day lead to broader cooperation. But the State Department has some cautionary words for Americans who think the reconciliation is already underway.

“This deal over Iran’s nuclear program does not alter the United States’ assessment of the risks of travel to Iran for U.S. citizens,” says a travel warningthe agency issued on Wednesday.

“Dual national Iranian-American citizens may encounter difficulty in departing Iran,” it says.

Advisories for Americans who travel abroad are regularly published by the State Department. The latest entry on Iran follows a warning in January, and it was made public the day President Obama defended the nuclear accord in a major speech at American University in Washington.

While many United States citizens, including Iranian-Americans, travel to and from Iran without problems, there have been some notable exceptions.

Iran is currently holding three Americans of Iranian descent: Jason Rezaian, a reporter for The Washington Post; Amir Hekmati, a Marine veteran from Flint, Mich.; and Saeed Abedini, of Boise, Idaho, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for establishing a private network of churches. A fourth American, Robert A. Levinson, vanished there eight years ago.

Secretary of State John Kerry, who traveled here for a regional meeting on security issues, and other senior United States officials urged Iran to free the Americans in discussions with their Iranian counterparts on the margins of the nuclear talks. In a television appearance last month, Mr. Kerry said he was “very hopeful” that Iran would “do the right thing.”

As much as the administration hopes at least some of the Americans will be released in the wake of the nuclear accord, the State Department warning reflects concerns that Iran could detain other visitors, particularly Iranian-Americans, on false charges or make it hard for them to leave.

“Since 2009, Iranian authorities have prevented the departure, in some cases for several months, of a number of Iranian-American citizens, including journalists and academics, who traveled to Iran for personal or professional reasons,” the warning says, repeating language from the January notification. “Iranian authorities also have unjustly detained or imprisoned U.S. citizens on various charges, including espionage and posing a threat to national security.”

With no formal diplomatic relations, the United States relies on the Swiss Embassy in Tehran to provide services to traveling Americans. But there is a catch, the State Department notes.

“The Iranian government does not recognize dual citizenship and will not allow the Swiss to provide protective services for U.S. citizens who are also Iranian nationals,” it says.
