Climate change blamed for deaths of 200 Arctic reindeer

So I got this straight. The reindeer population (thought this was a good thing) has doubled since 1980 because of climate change. Also because of climate change reindeer can't find vegetation in the snow using their hooves, because alternating freezing and thawing periods can create layers of impenetrable ice, depriving them of nourishment. I'm thinking climate change is aka Mother Nature.

Because a reindeer does not have access to sunscreen lotion SPF 40 in the event a hunter shot a reindeer ate the meat and died the scientists would tell us the meat was tainted by...you guessed it... climate change.

-------------------------

Two hundred reindeer have been found dead from starvation in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard during an annual census of the wild reindeer population, the Norwegian Polar Institute said Monday, pointing the finger at climate change.

Ashild Onvik Pedersen, head of the census, told AFP that "climate change is making it rain much more. The rain falls on the snow and forms a layer of ice on the tundra, making grazing conditions very poor for animals."

In winter, Svalbard reindeer find vegetation in the snow using their hooves, but alternating freezing and thawing periods can create layers of impenetrable ice, depriving them of nourishment.

According to Onvik Pedersen, a comparable death toll has only been recorded once before since monitoring started 40 years ago.

But the increased mortality is also due in part to a significant increase in the number of reindeer in the Norwegian archipelago, which is itself partly thanks to the warmer summers caused by climate change.

Since the 1980s, the number of reindeer has doubled in Svalbard, and now stands at around 22,000, according to the Norwegian Polar Institute.

U.S. has intel that Osama bin Laden's son and heir, Hamza, is dead, officials say

Good...let the prick sleep with the fishes just like his old man!

WASHINGTON — The United States has obtained intelligence that the son and potential successor of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Hamza bin Laden, is dead, according to three U.S. officials.

The officials would not provide details of where or when Hamza bin Laden died or if the U.S. played a role in his death. It is unclear if the U.S. has confirmed his death.

Asked by reporters on Wednesday whether the U.S. had intelligence that Hamza is dead, President Donald Trump said, "I don't want to comment on that."

Hamza bin Laden's last known public statement was released by al Qaeda's media arm in 2018. In that message, he threatened Saudi Arabia and called on the people of the Arabian peninsula to revolt.

Hamza bin Laden is believed to have been born around 1989. His father moved to Afghanistan in 1996 and declared war against the U.S. Hamza went with him and appeared in al Qaeda propaganda videos. As leader of al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden oversaw operations against Western targets that culminated in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York's World Trade Center and on the Pentagon.

Navy SEALS killed Osama bin Laden in 2011 during a raid on his Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound. Hamza was not found at the compound. Letters seized from the compound suggested the elder bin Laden wanted his son to join him in Abbottabad and was grooming him as a leader.

In a September 2017 article, counterterror expert and former FBI agent Ali Soufan said, "Hamza is being prepared for a leadership role in the organization his father founded" and is "likely to be perceived favorably by the jihadi rank-and-file. With the Islamic State’s ‘caliphate’ apparently on the verge of collapse, Hamza is now the figure best placed to reunify the global jihadi movement."

In February, the State Department announced it would pay as much as $1 million for information on Hamza bin Laden's whereabouts.

The department's Rewards for Justice Program described the younger bin Laden on Twitter as "an emerging al Qaeda leader" who "has threatened attacks against the United States and allies."

Shouldn't the mayor be branded a racist?

Before you get started looks like Trump and Pugh (great name) agree Baltimore’s a shithole.

HUD official Lynne Patton says $16 billion recently given to Baltimore. Wants to know, where’d it go?

Conehead likes to conduct investigations. How about investigating what happened to the $16 billion?

Rat Runs Through Live Shot Of Baltimore

A rat ran through a live shot of Baltimore during a local news outlet’s coverage of the controversy surrounding Trump’s tweets that the city is “rat-infested.”

During a FOX45’s live shot of an empty lot in Sandtown-Winchester, a rat quickly scurried across just as reporter Maxine Streicher said city residences would like to see President Trump visit Baltimore. (RELATED: Baltimore Rat Infestation Is So Bad They Made A Documentary About It 2 Years Ago)

“Now, we spoke with many people today, who say the president should consider coming here to Baltimore, to the Sandtown area, and taking a look at things for himself,” said Streicher as the camera shows a rat emerging from a pile of trash.

WATCH:

In September of last year, the Former Mayor of Baltimore Catherine Pugh commented on how you could smell “the rats” and “dead animals” in some of the cities poorest areas.

“What the hell? We should just take all this sh*t down,” said Pugh. “Whoa, you can smell the rats…whew, Jesus.”

Pugh exclaims, “Oh my God, you can smell the dead animals.”

Media portrayal if Trump said the exact same thing.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh: "You can smell the rats!"

Since Trump’s weekend tweets condemning Rep. Elijah Cummings for not focusing on his own district and claiming that it was “rat-infested” members of the press and Democratic party have condemned the President comments as racist.

On Tuesday, the President double-downed on his tweets and blamed Cummings for Baltimore’s shortcomings.

“As you know, Congressman Cummings has been there for a very long time. He has had an iron hand on it. It is a corrupt city, all you have to do is look at the facts,” Trump said. “The government over the years has pumped in billions and billions of dollars to no avail. To absolutely no avail.”

The president continued,” I’ve received more phone calls than I think on any subject from people of Baltimore and other cities corruptly run by Democrats thanking me for getting involved.” He finished by saying,” Those people are living in hell.”

‘Hannity’ & Fox News Top Monthly Ratings Again, MSNBC Hits Trump Era Demo Low

Sean Hannity will be competing with the first night of the CNN-hosted Democratic debates tonight, but the Fox News Channel host likely won’t even get a scratch when it comes to the ratings.

Holding steady with last year and last month, Donald Trump’s favorite 9 PM show was again the most watched on cable news in July. Up 4% from June and dipping the same from the Brett Kavanaugh-dominated cycle of last year, Hannity was tops for a fourth month in a row with 3.3 million viewers and 527,000 viewers in the adults 25-54 news demographic.

Speaking of that demo, Hannity was down 21% from this time last year and up 6% from last month, which was also the end of the second quarter of the year. No big surprises there — FNC’s dedicated base made sure the Rupert Murdoch-owned outlet won that too.

Coming in with a total audience of with 3.14 million, Tucker Carlson Tonight was the second most watched cable news show of the month, followed by fellow FNCers The Ingraham Angle (2.6 million) and The Five (2.5 million). MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show was the only non-Fox News show to make it in the Top 5 this month, tripping into fifth place with 2.3 million viewers.

In fact, July was not a good month overall for the NBCUniversal-owned MSNBC.

First, top-rated Maddow was down in a month that launched with the outlet hosting the first round of Democratic presidential debates. Then, snagging a result of just 125,000 for total day, MSNBC had its least-watched month among the 25-54s since the former Celebrity Apprentice host moved into the White House in January 2017 – and that’s with Robert Mueller’s much-hyped congressional hearings on July 24.

(Don't worry Rae the muffdivers are still watching)

Still, in all categories except total day demo, MSNBC was ahead of CNN – who had their much-promoted debate candidates’ lottery draw on the week before last.

Looking at the primetime numbers, CNN and MSNBC was both almost uniformly down double digits in total day and primetime viewers and demo compared to the midterms lead-up of the summer of 2018. Total day viewership saw CNN stumble 13% and MSNBC decline 7% with 32% and 29% drops in the demo respectively. In primetime, it was 11% and 10% in viewers and 32% and 28% respectively in the 25-54s.

In the battle between that top cable newsers that aren’t owned by an Australian mogul, MSNBC beat CNN for the 29th month in a row in total day viewers.

Capturing a very small victory but avoiding defeat, Fox was actually up 1% in viewers in both categories against its past performances. The outlet was down 10% and 15% in total day and primetime demo results compared to July 2018.

Clearly the happy dance party was in another part of FNC HQ – and it was one the opposition couldn’t crash if they wanted to.

With it was 2.43 million on average for FNC, the outlet swarmed MSNBC’s 1.5 million and the Jeff Zucker-run WarnerMedia outlet’s meek 797,000 in primetime, according to Nielsen. Among the 25-54 demo in primetime, FNC averaged 378,000 viewers for the month to MSNBC’s 222,000 and CNN’s 201,000. Expanding the scope to total day, Fox News snared an average of 1.4 million viewers to MSNBC’s 852,000 and CNN’s 557,000. Narrowing in on total day demo, CNN had a rare second-place pole with 131,000 viewers to Fox News’ 237,000 and MSNBC’s 125,000.

The beating continued outside of primetime too.

FOX News @ Night with Shannon Bream snared 1.4 million viewers and 279,000 in the 25-54 demo for the month in the 11 PM ET slot. That thrashed MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Brian Williams for the fifth consecutive month among the 25-54s. A pounding that saw the once disgraced NBC Nightly News anchor’s cable show getting its MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Brian Williams hit its second-worst demo rating since its September 2016 debut.

In case, you didn’t feel there was enough math here – chew on this, July 2018 was the second month in a row that FNC has been #1 in all of cable in primetime. The sweltering month that ends tomorrow is also the 37th month that Fox News has been the most-watched network on basic cable in total day.

Add that up, fair and balanced.
