A 5.3 lb chicken is pictured next to 14,600,000 Bolivars. Its price is the equivalent of $2.22 US at a mini-market in Caracas, Venezuela on August 16, 2018. Venezuela has been thrown into chaos by a socialist government under Nicolas Maduro which has introduced a controversial tranche of fiscal policies. Unbridled hyperinflation saw the Bolivar devalued to a point where workers needed wheelbarrows to carry enough cash for a weekly shopping trip. That's if they could find food.
